I can only assume that the first science officer and the captain of the Maginot were brilliant leaders, because everyone else on that ship except Morrow was a fucking moron.
Well...

You gotta be a little dumb to sign on for a sixty-five year stretch.

Another thing - what’s with the Sabbath at the end of ep1?! This is not a fucking rock n roll party people - it’s total looming annihilation.
The thing I love about Alien is that atmosphere of grim dread. Now it’s all dressed up as “entertainment” with deliberate levity - dilutes the crap out of it…
You mean a little something like this?

I like Noah Hawley, but I like him how I like lesser Neil Young albums. There's plenty in there that I really like and find creatively stimulating, but there's also a lot of disappointments and failed potential. Legion was like that for me. I still love it despite how it stopped trying to juggle the balls it had in the air and just walked over to another table to spin plates for a bit before . . .

I like this show like that. The rock music endings always pulled me out, though I think the music guy is talented. I didn't mind that there was rarely action nor horror, however it could have used a bit more tension at times. I mostly enjoyed the story, characters (most of them), performances, and setting. But like a lesser Neil Young album, there's some stupid "t-bone and mashed potatoes" parts, but I somehow don't mind it too much.

It was a bummer that the last episode resolved so little. I get nervous when Hawley carries over a set of characters from one season to another. Yet, I feel he played things a little too safe compared to something like Legion. That show had disappointments, but at least it did some wild shit, at least it wasn't a normal TV show. As it is I enjoyed it.

Yeah, they had ideas, budget, actors... but it just didn't come together.
This is the classic problem with the franchise right? I enjoyed but granularly. There was good stuff and stuff that had to ignore to enjoy it.

In the first episode when that lady starts "acting" like a child... I was out. Also, that whippersnapper young tech wizard... Barrrf!

The cliched Tech Bros was one of the worst aspect of this show. The "I did this to have someone smarter than me to talk to" scene was awful.

I think they were trying to do something interesting with Man/Woman Child thing. A couple of the actors really got it right, the Indian guy did not and unfortunately he was a main character in later episodes.

Every Alien spinoff since Aliens has had the exact same problem, great ideas, actors and visuals but they just struggle to get it into a consistent film/show. I quite like Alien 3, and would have been interested to see a version of the original script by Vincent Ward. The non-Fincher Assembly Cut is a decent film. I've enjoyed most of the Alien releases... I haven't seen the Vs Predator films and I fucking hated Romulus after the first 30mins.

Man, you all are a tough crowd.

I enjoyed the Alien: Earth series, which as someone said is, so far anyway, about AI, not the aliens; then there's the other major theme: Peter Pan.

The acting was good, I liked the pacing, the "scares" were fun, I liked the story. I like the musical cliff-hangers, though I would not have used Pearl Jam or Godsmack.

Of the franchise what I thought was really fucking dumb was Resurrection. OMG that one sucked. I hate Joss Whedon's schtick, and generally like Juenet's stuff. Completely stupid film IMO.

Along the line of the above post...

(Serious Nerd Aspect Trigger Warning...)

If you really know your "X-Men..." comics inside/out/up/down?

You know that the only elements from Legion that were actually from the source material were David Haller/Gabrielle Haller/Charles Xavier/The Shadow King.

Everything else in the show?

Built from the ground up.

So, while I guess I see where the grumbles are coming from?

It sort of feels like getting your feathers ruffled because Type O Negative will not just knuckle under, and do a straight up/faithful version of a song when they cover it.

If you truly want that?

Maybe they ain't the band for you.

Hahah.

I actually liked that about Legion. I rather liked the characters and setting. Hell, I really liked the show, a recent favorite. I only talk about it because I like it more than 98% of tv I see. I know the comic source and feel zero disappointment the show didn't do much with it. I just felt like the show could be jarringly brutal and swift in disposing of characters, especially when cutting from one season to the next. I kinda admire that about it, but it still feels disappointing sometimes.

I'm also quite happy to have an Alien show that is hardly about the xenomorphs. I do worry that the season leaves so many of the main characters more or less intact and we might get season 2 opening up abruptly with half of their heads in jars or something.
