100% would rather be in a band with good friends, mediocre musicians than good musicians, lousy friends. I don't think I've ever really dealt with the latter and want no part of it. But I've never needed to rely on money made from gigs. I suspect my answer might be different if that were the case.

I have played with junkies whom I liked, and that is not doable.
I have a hunch it's mostly metal band members that don't like each other. Lots of beef in the articles I see in my internets.
