Love the info on the Traynor talk, and wish I could just fly Nate to Texas to fix my shit and then maybe we could play Bedhead and true widow covers thru it when he's done lol.

Replaced the volume pot on my les paul becuz half the bent split shaft finally broke off. Everything worked except now the pickups were now backwards when I engaged the switch somehow? Neck was bridge and vice versa? The fuck did I do that?

Then I realized the little collet or whatever holds it in place was loose and the switch was upside down. Haha dummy. Problem solved.

I changed strings on my Tele for the first time in almost a decade, and I put a rando pack of 9s on there that came with one of those Premiere Guitar holiday box things. After years of playing 12s and 11s in E-standard and D-standard (and mostly bass as well), this set of 9s tuned to E-standard is SO EASY TO PLAY. Like I probably couldn't play live on strings this light, but it's super fun to just hold and play while noodling around.

Half-Ungrounded Patch Cable for Line 6 HX One

The HX One has a bit of a bug where for some people, using the Insert/4 Cable Method mode (so you can choose which patches go before or after your dirts) results in an ungodly amount of line noise. Apparently my bassist’s HX One is not affected by this.

The solution to this is apparently to have the ground cut out on one of the plugs on the last cable going into the return of the HX One. Unfortunately the one time I checked the music store close to work, all their patch cables either were low-profile or straight plug, but luckily I got one from my bassist I could use. The first time I tried this surgery I accidentally cut the entire plug away from the cable, and I didn’t get around to setting up my workbench until this week. Fired up the soldering iron for the first time in forever, connected the tip, wrapped the rest of the joint in electrical tape to cover the ground wire and put it all back together.

After wiring up the pedalboard again I’m happy to say it worked like a charm. I’m now considering pulling my Phase 95 off the board since I can set my phaser patch before my dirts now, and maybe setting up some pitch effects as well.

Wolf W300/[NOTORIOUSLY LITIGIOUS GUITAR COMPANY] 330 Copy

Thanks to those who assuaged my fears in the other thread about this one. Still haven’t unboxed some shit in the new apartment but eventually I found the old pickups for the thing, which is a set of fake Toasters with Kwikplug harnesses.

On the first attempt at a restring the trapeze tailpiece forcefully shot out because when I started tuning up, the retaining bar was not set inside the hook that keeps it in place. After what seemed like an eternity I had it all back together properly and strung up to pitch.

Bridge pickup don’t work.

Could be any reason from my own mishandling or it spending time inside a box for the better part of several months.

Granted, it’s not like A) I’m playing out any time soon, and B) I don’t have any gig-ready guitars on hand if I was. I think I’m gonna table the guitar for now, and when I have the money I’m gonna get a new set of pickups and just to be on the safe side new electronics and freshly rewire it. Still, it’s hard not to have the Steve Harvey Family Feud “THOUGHT ABOUT K___ING MYSELF” clip running through my head after cocking this up.

Maybe another set of pups from Gemini (he offers a Hi-Gain style pickup as well as a Dynatron style, or I might ask him to do an Ultra Ceramic set that will fit in a Toaster shell, with individual pole pieces to get closer to the Jumbo MFD sound), maybe the set of Firebird pickups that FM benadrian put on a guitar, maybe those Lace Aluma 90s (which is very much the most expensive option of the three). If any o’ youse have any experience with any of those, I’d like to hear your thoughts!

I have a set of dearmond goldfoils in ric covers that gemini made for me, if that's of interest to you FM defendyachtrock? I went with a set of humbuckers instead on that particular guitar, they're just sitting.

Also, when you're re-stringing a ric, the easiest way to not want to shoot yourself in the head (imo) is to seat the strings with the R-tailpiece off and then just put a strip of gaffer/etc tape over the bottom to hold them in place until you get them all wound on a bit.

What do they sound like? Anything you can compare to? I had a couple Gold Foil-style pups on a few guitars and wasn’t terribly impressed, but they were GFSes and I don’t know that those were great examples of the sound.

Froberg in hot snakes is probably the thing that comes to mind for me? They're relatively hot for a vintage pickup, kind of woody, touch sensitive. They're probably closer to a P90 than anything else, but I don't tend to like P90s and I quite like the dearmond gold foils (at least the ones gemini makes?). I have sets of his dearmonds in two parts-built Jazzmasters and really like them.
