I'd argue that early on there wasn't much of a difference between juke and footwork, and I should mention that I've never been much of a fan of either. Both come from ghetto house - another subgenre that passed me by. That said, when DJ Deeon passed a couple of years ago I found a phenomenal track from him called "Da Bomb" in which I can clearly hear where ghetto house inspires footwork.

As for the genre it doesn't do much for me outside of the rare tune. I dig tracks that'll make you jack. Footwork is too speedy for my personal tastes, but I couldn't vote crap on an entire genre of music unless it was reggaeton. No shade to Bad Bunny! Just musically isn't my thing.
