Fuck, I'll say it: I'm a fan of the Presto through Counterparts era. Great to put on at the gym and airdrum.

Production aside, the songs hold up well for me through all three albums, even the godawful rapping on "Roll the Bones".

First drum take on "Show Don't Tell" made the album. Kinda wild.

Rush is not crap and they seem like chill bros.

Regarding Rush being female repellant . . . I was in a side project with a gal I met down here, with whom I eventually had consensual sexual relations; now we're just friends; you may have heard one of the few tracks we put out. Anyway, when we were first getting to know each other, we learned that we both happened to attend the same Leonard Cohen show in Tampa in 2009, well before crossing paths. I then asked her what other bands she'd seen live and she mentioned Rush (when Neil Peart was still with 'em). SO THERE!! Girls/women can like Rush. But while she was born in America, she did live her first twenty-odd years outside the country, so that might have something to do with it. Because come to think of it, I've never met an America woman into Rush. You're more likely to find one who likes Steely Dan.
ZzzZzzZzzz . . .

New Novel.

My gf’s sister-in-law is a rabid Rush fan. We can always rely on talking about Rush when we’ve run out of things to talk about. We had a nice Rush conversation over dinner in New Orleans a few nights ago. Thank god for Rush, because it didn’t take long for the conversation to wear thin.

The women-not-liking-Rush thing is a bit exaggerated, but I will say- my gf hates them. I mean, REALLY hates them. Most of the hatred comes from some of the shittiest people she knew in high school being Rush fans, but I don’t think that’s Rush’s fault.

My wife can't stand them. But in olden times, I dated no less than two girls who liked Rush. And neither of them were pimply faced D&D players. (Granted, one had hippie tendencies, the other liked prog rock [along w/a lot of punk, post-punk, indie, and '70s hard rock stuff] and had Canadian relatives. King Crimson seemed to be the connecting thread for her.)

About the only thing I dig re: Rush is some of the guitar playing. Lee's yelpy voice is a nonstarter for me, and some of the lyrics read like libertarian porn. And this is from someone who can get past a lot of bad singers and who mostly ignores the words. Rhythm section is a bit errr, busy.

But something about Rush is just so... dorky. The first album—despite still having really terrible lyrics—is maybe a little easier on the nerves b/c it's just a Zep-damaged hard rock record.

Geddy Lee has pretty decent taste in wine as far as celebrities go—white Burgundy and riesling, if I'm remembering it right, as opposed to the usual big red monsters. So cheers to him for that.

I'm indifferent, but leaning towards no. Not voting yet.

As bandmates, we have had little jokes about this song for years. But upon viewing this video, I realized it has been several decades since I saw this video or heard the song. I am at a loss as to who green lighted this whole thing. It's so complexly bad. From the chicken pickin' to the lyrics, and then the video itself. I had forgotten it all. Was this a straight edge fight song? Or was Big diabeetus funding these choads? Damn.I forgot how shit cheese Mid 80's radio music was. Make it make sense. Also I am still all for Rush keeping on.

I shit you not, I say "might as well go for soda" every single day. Every. Single. Day.

It's an abortion that lived.

My girlfriend was casually into Rush when we met in high school, and I used to tease her for it, but she was way more into the Pixies so it was all good. Nowadays I think I like Rush more than she does, but I can only bring myself to listen to a handful of their tunes.

This is weird- I'm at work and went down to the cafeteria to get a drink, and left a note on my desk chair "brb, getting a soda"

I rarely use the word "soda" because I usually drink seltzer or juice

Then I come back and see this thread and this goofy ass song
