Does anyone have a functioning ADAT recorder? A friend found 2 master tapes... Unknown if they are from a 16 trk session that was 2 machines locked or 2 8 track sessions. Also unknown if it was 16 or 20 bit, but I believe the 20 bit machines could play either tapes. I just need them dumped into individual track files.

These can be repaired elsewhere, right? These desks are basically overbuilt desktops running a lite version of windows from 15 years ago. Ive looked up the mfg and psu part number on the internet and found similar but not 100% identical units for 1/10th the price. They seem to just be a standard OEM unit.
Sorry to bring back this necro-post but ended up having a second PSU starting to fail and after months of on/off attempts to find a solution to this ridiculous problem, I finally had a huge win yesterday.

As I suspected there is nothing magical or special about these PSUs. I finally found a US-based rep for the OEM mfg, and gave them a ring about factory service for them. Yep they sure do. Price each? $130. Great, I'll take two please. Off to Taiwan they go.

I've really grown to love working on these Digicos now that I have figured out some of the more interesting features. I also like that even though this thing is about 15 years old at this point, there was a software update that came out less than a year ago. That being said, this kind of markup on a simple item is a huge black mark. I can only imagine they figure if folks are going to spend this kind of money on a mixer they won't balk at that kind of repair cost either.

We have a Quantum 338. It's an extremely flexible and full featured board especially with the optical loop stuff but... I hate the UI. Tons of hunting and pecking, the menus are laid out bad, lots of little X buttons to hit to close windows (it really feels like you are working in Windows OS... which technically you are as it sits on top of Windows OS) The Channel GUI is a noisy mess and hard to grock at a glance. Using it is slow. I hate that at all times I am forced to look at half, and only half my aux sends, unless I hit a button to see them all, and the Channel Strip info is crushed into a tiny hard to look at truncation that requires a menu open, and close to access things like EQ, Comp, etc. I wish it was a FULL SCREEN of strip info, and I only say Auxes IF I HIT the Aux view. It's just not user friendly and visually noisy. We also have 14 Allen & Heath DLives, which are nowhere near as robust of an ecosystem, but It is laid out so much easier and friendlier. I have never had to look up anything in the manual for a Dlive, but and searching forums pretty much every time I touch the 338. My only other experience with DigiCo was a D1 at Millennium Park in like 2006, and a few short interactions with a SD9. I didn't like those either for many of the same reasons. Most of the Audio techs that come though seem to like it, but all of us that take care of it aren't amused.

ADAT by a million miles, followed by Tascam DA88, followed by DAT.

We used to have a rack mount HD Minidisk recorder and it was rock solid. The media was solid, but spendy, and you could toss it around and let it fly around in rack drawers with little regard for its safety. Never had an issue and they sounded fine for recording live shows off the board.

What is the deal with having one shielded and and one non-shielded wire inside the cable of a Fender-style two-button Reverb/Vibrato footswitch?
I mean the kind that has two RCA jacks.

I have one of these and the braided insulation broke, I guess I can kinda jumper the braid back together.

I was just curious why they are made this way. Wouldn't a regular double RCA cable make sense?
Is it just for the mojo?
