That always ends well.
I was reading somewhere the response to an invasion of Greenland has the potential to cripple the US for quite some time. We'd lose NATO, but then the EU would shut down all our air bases, call in our debt, seize our corporate headquarters and freeze their bank accounts, and cut the US off from western trade. Considering that mining companies don't think Greenland is worth the expense, because they could go there now and mine it with our agreements with the country, but they can do it cheaper elsewhere, and the fact that we have a military base there already with a military alignment, this is probably the dumbest move any one in history or in the future could make.

But the US is motivated by Trump's ego alone, and he's only governed by his own morality, so we'll probably have WWIII where we end up crumbling from the weight of one man's dementia-addled brain being fed by absolute psychopaths.
Your first paragraph reads exactly how I expect Trump's historical legacy to read. I doubt those ramifications mean shit to his cosplay-imperialist worm brain.
I'd rather be throwing darts.

According to this Finnish military expert an US invasion of Greenland would be an absolute disaster.

Even with total dominance air power US ground troops would struggle to compete with Northern European and Canadian troops and logistics working in extreme weather conditions.

I've had this video in my algorithm but the AI slop thumbnail has put me off watching it. I guess I will if it's actually good

But yeah, we're prepared for Arctic warfare about as well as Napoleon was prepared for the Russian front.

As a Canadian living in California, I will say: “And then some”
Californians are in scarves & gloves at around the same temperature we midwesterners are debating whether or not to put on long pants

Part in bold is exactly what Trump wants and he has been on it since the 80's, It's also what Putin wants. Fun fact. Trump bought the linked add shortly after a his first trip to Moscow.

Americans. Any clue how the military are reacting to all of this? I’d assume there are pro and anti Trump factions vying for influence. But who Trump overreach create a military refusal to implement?

I'm baffled - my role in life means lots of former military as co-workers (telecom) and most are like WTF? They're not your typical texas conservative, and see the violence and are appalled.

But they're the ones who went to the private sector. I don't know about career people.
