Alright, I was going to stay quiet about this. I bought the pedal...or thought I did. Made the purchase through their site last week, payment went through, everything is good.

After not hearing from them since last week, or getting a shipping invoice, I wrote to them last night about when they plan to ship it out. I got an email cancelling and refunding my order. No explanation, no apology, no nothing. That's some high-level bullshit service right there. Not to dump on a small local shop, but hell...don't offer online sales if you can't keep it straight.

On the plus side: I saved $400!
Well shit, sorry about that. Never bought from them online but wouldn't be surprised if they had it up and had already sold it in store. I'll keep an eye out if another one pops up locally.
If you see one, yeah, let me know. That pedal sound is a perfect topping for guitar. Missing out isn't a huge loss, but the way it happened and was handled? Pretty uncool. I don't blame you, btw. Just the business.

A Beyerdynamic M201 went for $200 on an ebay auction today while old SM56s (which is the CCR mic) are routinely being listed for $800? I would just get the M201 all day.

We kind of went through it in the other thread, but I do love M201s and they sound good on everything, you just won’t get gobs of low end like you would with a M88, which is actually a good thing sometimes. But its great if you are doing a 70s DI/amp thing where the amp is just supplying some grit. Use the M88 if you are going for a Bob Weston thing though.

I was looking at that stupid m201 auction 15 minutes before it closed, thinking I would snipe it in a few minutes and then moved on with my life and forgot it until now.

Looks like there are still great deals to be had on ebay, but you do have to fuck with the auction horseshit, which I kind of despise. So if Beyer mics are looking increasingly out of reach, be patient. Also, the oddball stuff like M69 tends to run cheaper than on Reverb.

Triode gain stage -> gain control -> Triode gain stage -> volume control

Ought to be easy to replicate.
I don't know what the circuit is but I could definitely open mine up and send some pics your way, or reach out to Doug (I'll be seeing his current band Glose later this month).

I was also curious just how different this could be from your "Royale", Tony!

Similar idea but totally different implementation from the one gut pic i've seen. The Royale design is truly much more of a distortion pedal. Its made to do that and doesnt have a whole ton of boost to it. It seems like the Thermionic guy obviously CAN distort but it's designed to be more like a boost, adding a gain stage to the front of one's amp.

That cool space-tinged Univox looks, but probably overpriced?
