Selling a good instrument due to bad vibes

Not about instruments that play poorly (although they may), but a perfectly fine, maybe even valuable, instrument that is negative to you. Maybe it was bitterly fought over in a break up, reminds you of bad gigs, down times, terrible decisions. What would you do with an instrument like this?

It's a good thing to do.

I had a lovely 70s Greco I bought stupid cheap in 2002 - the single best deal on gear I've ever had, £125 - and it was love. It could do everything I wanted a guitar to do. Then my life turned to shit for a couple of years. I recorded some pieces I still like with it, but every time I held it, I couldn't break down those associations.

Sold it to my best friend for less than half its market value. I'm glad for my time with it, but I don't miss it.

Waited almost 2 years for my EGC Bass VI to arrive. When it did, I was slightly disappointed but figured I would get used to it. About a year after having it, my SO at the time decided to destroy it along with some other stuff. Called Kevin and he said it could fix it up, but of course it was going to take a few months. Almost a year later, I got it back. Within 3 months of having it back, I sold it for a slight profit. Fuck that guitar forever.
