BAND: Wednesday

I am generally not much of an alt-country dude and assume many of you are the same, but I am of course VERY much a noisy, shoegazey indie rock dude, so this band's "you dropped your Sheryl Crow in my Built to Spill and Swirlies" vibe has really clicked for me since I was turned onto them a little over a month ago. Their 2025 album BLEEDS is kinda all over the place but in a really good way, veering from quiet easy listening country tunes to absolutely bent noise ragers. 90s indie rock kids will probably find something to latch onto here pretty easily. Their 2023 album RAT SAW GOD is maybe even noisier than BLEEDS. I think I'ma go see them at Turner Hall in March.

Cool band, great songs, she's got an awesome voice. I thought this latest album was too all over the place. It's pretty amazing that they can play hardcore well and she can scream her ass off, but it made the album feel a little aimless to me. I look forward to them maybe synthesizing their influences a little more.

Saw them at levitation and had no idea who they were, enjoyed the set, songs, energy, etc.

Haven't sought out any recordings, BUT I did hear her name drop swirlies on the grams which is never bad. But she picked Blonder Tongue as the record to talk about, which is inferior to salons for my money.

Good band. Also I love Turner Hall with its creaky slanted floors and the ceiling that threatens to collapse on you.

I really liked RAT SAW GOD, not just for how it sounds, but the depressing small town subject matter. BLEEDS hasn't had the same effect on me (yet). I saw them a few years back (on a Wednesday :)), Kevin Morby and Katie Crutchfield were in the crowd. Good show.
"Whatever happened to that album?"
"I broke it, remember? I threw it against the wall and it like, shattered."

Not at all into this style of singing, where a phrase has fourteen changes in ten seconds. Singing around the note. Maybe this singer is a real hillbilly and comes by it honestly?
The album is all of the map. Listened to the whole thing. Obv. an band of total ringers, is my guess. Sounds like many of the later-period Merge albums (totally crisp, no breath in the performances).

I thought this was an Instagram band, but it looks like it's a real band. Wild.

Not for me, but I will say, it was playing at the coffee shop last week and sounded much more pleasent over the speakers there while I was working. I hope the SEO they paid for has worked for them.
