Pretti was a participant in a protest in a city he lived in where federal agents have been emboldened to maim and kill protesters and was shot in the back while trying to help a woman from being attacked by those federal agents.

You have to be pretty braindead to think these are the same because both people were gun owners.

I am not saying that you are living the same history, but if any of you would like to know how that looks like, my country's history in WW2 is a great telling. I have heard stories from my grandfather, when he was still lucid during the day and not drenched in enough alcohol to drown a whale. So let me break it down. There is one story: our country is on the brink of an authoritarian take-over. In Minneapolis an innocent poet and an ER nurse at a VA hospital were both killed in cold blood by federal agents. It is happening now. Toddlers are being sent to detention centers; videos of their gyms for kids recall the youth choruses that the Nazis so proudly showed off at the Terezin concentration camp. Intimidation and violence are being weaponized against the citizens of Minneapolis, some of whom are afraid to leave their houses for fear of being beaten, arrested and shackled, regardless of whether they are US citizens or asylum seekers or people from another country peacefully living and working here for decades.

That is the news we should be paying attention to. At least for the moment, everything else is a distraction.

I had my annual meeting with my financial advisor just now, and boy was that an interesting conversation. In their projections they have considerations for "Chaotic Policies" coming from the administration and the hurdle towards the AI bubble bursting, among other catastrophic problems we're facing. Interesting to see turmoil in economic projects for retirement. I asked a lot of questions regarding the value of the dollar dropping, the national debt and the possibility of US bonds being dumped, without getting too political. The point here is that what's going on is permeating everything, right down to the people who have their teeth sunk into the veins of our financial system and even they can't admit things are going to be fine and have us planning for disaster in a way I've never seen before. It was pretty chilling. Usually these guys are apolitical and talk about finance in a way that helps paint dry, but this was different. In very boring language, there was a lot of admitting that we're in for dire straits.
