I picked up a Squier VM Jaguar last year but after the intial honeymoon period I didn't find myself reaching for it very often when I wanted to play. It's a cool guitar and I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't really get much out of it sound-wise that I liked, even with the upgraded pickups the previous owner installed (though for playing some occasional surf stuff it sounded great).
A little while back I stumbled on a good deal on a used CV Jazzmaster and I gave it a try at the shop, liked it, and decided I'd buy it and sell whichever of the two I liked less. It took about fifteen minutes of playing it at home for me to decide to sell the Jag. The JM is as versatile as anything I've played, sounds great through both my amps, and still does the surf thing well, which was kind of the only thing I really liked about the Jaguar. The longer scale is also more comfortable for me... it's just a very easy guitar to sit down and play with for a long period. I also didn't expect to actually use the rhythm circuit that much but I've been using it quite a bit.
and the little dude enjoys it more, which is really the only thing that matters
