In my experience (Northeast US) lead paint is in a lot of places that were constructed in the 70s or earlier. I have an old place and have to test for lead a lot if I’m doing renovations.

I have a front door that needs to be stripped and I think rather than doing it in place, I’ll make a temporary door and send the 150 year old one out to a pro, in order to be safer.

There are some heat guns that specifically stop at a temperature lower than dangerous lead fuming... supposedly

Ah yes, what was I thinking - the lead fumes could turn into Tylenol.
