I've picked up a few rogue-likes lately.

Dice With Death I'm hooked on this one. A simple dice rolling game with some really fun mechanics and different characters that add different flavors. I dunno, it's cheap, if you like this kind of shit, buy it. You won't be disappointed.

Die in the Dungeon Another dice game. There's a lot to want to like about it, but something about it just doesn't click as well as Dice with Death. It's basically a turn-based game using dice, but I feel like the other games like it that used cards instead, or even more traditional JRPG, are much more exciting. I tend to play this and get bored quickly. I picked it up for next to nothing, so I can't complain.

Cloverpit I played the demo and really liked it, but felt it wasn't worth full price. So I picked it up on sale. It's a fun, quick game of slots, except if you lose, you die.

Ball Pit I don't even know how to explain this game. It's weird and kind of annoying, but also fun. It's like pinball meats rogue-likes, but isn't quite pinball at all. I don't particularly like the building aspect, I just wanna get down to throwing balls. The builds are fun, and the characters are interesting. It's not a deep game, and for a few bucks it's worth it.

Other than that, I picked up Remnant II. I like the idea, haven't played it yet. I usually play on my Steam deck, but for this one, it's better on my gaming machine. Oh, the gaming machine. I built it as a good mid-level computer for playing Elden Ring. It's been collecting dust in the basement for about a year. I wanted to spend my Sunday afternoon trying the game out, but I spent the whole time upgrading my machine and letting steam update, and it took forever to download the game and install it (84gbs). Anyway, maybe I'll try again tonight.

I went back to playing Iratus: Lord of the Dead last night, though. I hadn't touched it in quite some time, but it just popped in my mind and I had never played it on the deck, so I gave it a go. God, I love this game so much. If you like Darkest Dungeon, Iratus is something you ought to try. I don't realy play Darkest Dungeon much and I didn't really like the sequel, but I will always return to Iratus. I saw that the same game maker is in beta for a gladiator game that looks interesting. Seems like it takes a lot of ideas from Madden, you're building a "killer" team hee haw!

This game is infuriatingly difficult in spots, but it's also gorgeous and addictive and I DID manage to slay the Beastfly a day or so later. Now OTHER shit makes me want to throw my Switch. Man, this game is good.
I got frustrated with how hard Silksong is and put it down for Hades 2, which is finished enough. Went back to Silksong for a bit then got frustrated with how hard Silksong is and put it down to return to Balatro and try and 100% it. I'll be back to Silksong before long.

Literally the same three games I am floating between right now. Salut.

I picked up Dogpile on sale. What a weird, delightful game.

Doom: The Dark Ages is on sale for $23 until Feb. 15th. I loved 2016, Eternal was fun, but missed some of the sauce. Dark Ages looks really interesting. Been dying for an FPS to suck me back in. I've been playing Ultrakill, which has Doom vibes and is really challenging, but lacks some things that keep me engaged.

It looks pretty, but competitive shooters are unfriendly to me, and they seem to be in the charge to use AI in ways that make me queasy, so I’m staying away.

Jim, IIRC you’re on XBox - my beloved time-sink Helldivers 2 opened up to it a little while back, and if the thought of semi-competent co-op shooting with semi-coherent wit and obscenity with me and a couple of other PRF 1.0 lags appeals, please send me a message. The game’s Starship Troopers schtick still holds up well, and it’s the only live-service game that’s really drawn me in, largely because it is as relaxed or hard as you want it to be at any given time.
Sorry it took me so long to reply!
The thought appeals, for sure. Let me check it out here and see if I can pick it up on sale soonish.
I've been out of the habit again for a couple months, just playing a little Minecraft and Lego games with the little dude.

You'd probably love Slice & Dice too. It's addictive and well-made.
That does look interesting. Thanks for the tip.
