Didn't GD sing American Idiot? A song about this exact moment? Seems deliberate, that they picked that song to play for a short set. It seemed like they met the moment, in that respect. Did you expect them to say "FUCK ICE?" I think not saying that, but stating that this is wrong is a good place to be. WE want to see FUCK ICE, because we're cold hearted studs, but I'm thinking about my extended family that doesn't pay attention to politics enough to know what the fuck is going on. I'm not sure that a message like that will win them over.

I don't know, my personal experience dealing with bullies and defeating them in the court of public opinion, it always helps to let them hang by their own petards and stay cool. So, I'm not really convinced this was a missed opportunity. I think it goes in line with what our olympians are saying, which is "I don't represent everything my country does" over "FUCK ICE". Or, booing at public events, like we're seeing.

Still, I think there's good places to say FUCK ICE. Like, to their faces and in the streets and at wrestling matches. Everything is politicalized in a culture war, but we can express ourselves in multidimensional ways. The whole point of peaceful protest is to win the hearts and minds of the masses.

i really don't think paul allen and bob kraft bankrolled an artistic protest. they just wanted the #1 artist on spotify to bring more latinos to the nfl in a post aaron hernandez world.
