Did I say how much I fucking hate reggaeton?
I've seen so many people shit on reggaetron in the last couple of days I almost reflexively want to like and defend it, but I have no idea how I really feel about it. It seems so inoffensive.
I am here.

It's not really my jam, but I'm not shitting on it. That should be reserved for Kid Rock.

My cousin had a Mexican boyfriend, and I had to listen to "Gasolina" in the car way more than is honestly reasonable for a peckerwood not blinded by love. I also lived right next to Humboldt Park, so I got it coming and going. This was in 2005. That I'm still hearing this shit celebrated at the Superbowl twenty years later is inexcusable. It has aged about as well as Kid Rock's "All Summer Long", which is also similarly still inescapable in the general vicinity of a pontoon boat or IROC-Z.

The real hero here is Daddy Yankee, who apparently is also so sick of "Gasolina", that he turned down performing at the Superbowl. He also named his last record "Legendaddy", which is a hot move.

A couple of really awful reguetón songs aside (As a Latino who speaks Spanish, when you understand really shitty lyrics, it makes the music worse. But also, we hear music with shitty lyrics in English all the time, so it seems like this gets overlooked too, myself included.), I also just accept that it's not my thing either and that's OK.

It's also zero surprise that the Super Bowl got an extremely popular musical act to do the half-time show. But since I'm not in that Super Bowl watching audience either, I'm going to lose zero seconds of sleep over it. Hell, I've seen Chinese people sing a couple of Bad Bunny songs and that's pretty cute. It's nice to see Puerto Rico getting global recognition, after decades of neglect and exploitation.

Nowadays, I only have a handful of musical acts that I loathe. Kid Rock is especially one of the few of those loathesome acts. Wretched music since day one.

He’s been throwing everyone around him under the bus because he couldn’t lip sync his own dumb fucking song correctly. I never before cared enough to look him up, but he was literally a “my daddy owns a car dealership” rich kid that cosplays as a toilet rat or whatever. Total piece of shit human.
