holy shit man, sounds like he cheated on you
If that's not good enough for you, you can go with spitting in honkys' food for "psychological satisfaction" and more egregiously riding on MLK's coattails, literally faking that he was splattered in King's blood to kick start his career. Fuck this grifter.
Been on the board a while and seen a lot of dumb shit. This is way, way up there, and exhibit A of "shit this white dude would never say IRL to anyone outside of his chosen friend group."

Would pay to see you say these exact words with all the former activists I work with who marched with King, saw people get fucking shot in the street, were hit with water hoses, and then make it out of that room in one piece. You should talk to a therapist because you seem like a fucking miserable human being, and that actually makes me sad for you.

Dammit dude I had that one in the quiver waiting for the right moment to let it loose but I guess I waited too long
It was one of the top message board replies in the history of the internet. 10 years or so and I'm still talking about it.

I get what you're saying. Normalizing it just doesn't seem right with me, though.

Anyway, I shouldn't have brought it up. Sorry.
I was just making an observation. In general I’ve always found the US has a very moralistic baseline compared to a lot of other countries. The UK Prime Minister is openly atheist. Not an eyebrow raised. Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern wasn’t married when she had her baby in office. Only weirdos cared.

I guess it’s like the attitude to alcohol in the US, which to me always feels like “well, guess if you have to.”

Not judging, everywhere is different.
Just a sidebar that this is part of a much larger thing, and it bugs the shit out of me (in case anyone couldn't tell by the nature of many of my posts)? Dunno if it's b/c my mother was from Europe or what, but it never made sense. And one's politics don't really make much difference in terms of the nonstop puritanism. We are, after all, the country that brought you cancel culture, the Satanic panic, and the temperance movement. And social media has amplified some kind of weird neo-Puritanism, on both the left and the right. Americans love their moral highground re: oddly manufactured scandals. Whether it's some adulterous politician or expecting politically responsible opinions from some dumbass who plays in the Melvins (a band I've not cared about since maybe Houdini or Prick, I should add). Yet at the same time, gun culture and, to some extent, violence are totally mundane, accepted facts of life. Maybe it's all an excuse to root for your "team" but the whole thing boggles the mind. Personally, my wine-soaked ass understands the French far better.

This message board was always known for predominantly Chicago based snide comments, I don't think I'm out of step coming in with a hot take that wasn't meant for your Gran or some little kids. Again, as I wrote above, Jackson gets a lot of eye-rolls and worse from the MLK's former constituents who you've invoked who similarly consider him an grandstanding opportunist. His divisiveness is in like every obituary I've seen. I grew up in Jackson's heyday in Chicago and his legacy loomed large, and he always gave me 700 Club scammer vibes, and I feel like he preyed on good people's best intentions. I can respect what ChudFusk is saying, that symbolically he was still a win for his constituents and in the overall struggle for black people's dignity, but the fighting fire with fire thing and the holy robes rubbed me the wrong way. Fair enough that I wasn't his intended audience, but I always felt disadvantaged people deserved better from the King legacy.

He fit in well in Chicago, where we had gangsters, gangster cops, and gangster mayors.
I would hesitate to describe Chicago like this, as it's always the way right wingers start a conversation to delegitimize anyone and anything from Illinois.
I forgot gangster governors! :) Sorry, yeah I catch your drift. Actually I had been thinking about this, that if Illinois and Chicago specially wasn't so financially fucked we would be in a much better position to work as a fortress city and guys like Pritzker would hold more sway without having to contend with federal/private fund threats.

I hesitate to wade into these waters, it's probably not my place, but I fear you might have missed the point based on this snippet. In fact, you may have indicted yourself further.
What is your place exactly? But sure, lets cower in the corner until others give us permission to sit at the adult table. I thought a message board like this is a place to blow off steam and shoot-the-shit between reasonably intelligent people. I don't think ANYTHING I say here would make any difference "IRL" for any audience.
