I skipped this because I really didn't like Poor Things. And I agree, he's got some stinkers. I will say, you might like Begonia, that is in the good camp, imo.Bernardo wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 8:45 pm Also, finally saw Kinds of Kindness. I really like some of Lanthimos' films, not so much others, this is in the "not so much" camp. There's an aspect of his style which feels like bullshit, in a way, and when he indulges in it it becomes too transparently obvious that it all may be just a bunch of empty zany mannerisms, it helps when there is a more grounded story to be told (such as in The Favourite or Poor Things). I usually like when authors are let loose, but in his case I feel that he doesn't really seem to give a shit about what might otherwise be confused with themes in films like this one. At least Bugonia was closer to an actual comedy, so I enjoyed that more. I had a good time, sorta. But a voice inside my head was always going "eh, really???" for most of the run time. It had enough actual humour that it landed on the side of entertainment.
Re: Movies you have watched thread.
1201Predator: Badlands I put this on because I wanted some eye candy and easy watching. This was way better than I expected. I really loved Killer of Killers, still one of the best outputs for predator since the original film. Prey had an interesting take on predator, but it kind of lacked for me (maybe I'll give it a chance again). Badlands gave the predator in the story something to relate to, and I loved that they kept the tie-in with Aliens without having xenomorphs in it. Every turn in this movie was unexpected, the backstory of the predator gave him depth and made him interesting with his motivations and change in mindset. Elle fanning was good, and she was the only actor without a mask on, other than the actor playing the dozens of android copies. The fact that this movie was made, using mostly a made up language spoken by the main character, who also wasn't human and traditionally the antagonist, a lot of these bold moves really paid off. I was happy to see that it wasn't just a retread of the same old Predator films. Definitely check it out if you like this kind of sci-fi.
