Yes, I thought about this movie quite a bit after watching it.

Incredible casting. They did one of those end credits where they show each character with the actor's name, and I realized how every one of them was somehow unique and memorable, all different kinds of people, each made an impression and contributed to the film. Large cast, too.

I saw Sirat this week , I don't know. Make sure you watch it with BIG sound, I guess. If you're not in a good place emotionally it may not be a good pick.

Also, White Star, early 80's film with Dennis Hopper. By the point the film starts he's already chewed the scenery and is getting started with the camera. Out of his mind for the 90 minutes of it. Probably the only reason to watch it, though.

That first scene was incredible. You live it, but if people understand how dangerous corrupt police are in countries like Brazil, especially during the dictatorship, it was just blood curdling. Slow burn dread.

Saw Cast a Deadly Spell yesterday, had not ever heard of it until this week. Early 90's made for HBO film and one of Julianne Moore earliest film roles (she's not given anything special to do in it). It has a lot of promising ingredients but it's very flatly filmed. On the hands of someone with imagination (or someone crazier) it could have been memorable, but as it is, no wonder I'd never heard of it. It's a comedic mix of noir and fantasy, I was happy that it was so upfront about the fantastic aspects at first, but it's very obviously done by square people, which shows aesthetically, but also in the fact that it manages to be transphobic, racist, and with a central plot point that's dependent on pedophilia as a humorous development. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the people involved were happy no one talks about it. I feel sad for the actors, little bit. Still has nice moments scattered throughout.

Also has a Paul Schrader-directed sequel, Witch Hunt which is supposed to be terrible.

Just watched Sirat at the Music Box. Absolutely loved it but agree that it’s not a good movie to see if you’re in a bad place.

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die. There's a good story lurking in there, but they buried it with 'edgy' 'random' humour and fake AI slop. That story was also pilfered from Brazil and a dozen other far better films and TV programmes. It's also _extremely_ pleased with itself, weirdly reactionary, and way way too long. Sam Rockwell's innate likability met its match here. Starts ok but by the end is just unbearable.

In my defence I was checking out our new local cinema, and their selection was limited. However I still chose poorly.

Just watched Children of Men for the first time in probably 20 years. Jesus, that’s a stressful film. I kind of wish I’d remembered the end so it wasn’t such a nightmare last 20 minutes.
