Couldn't tell you - it's part of the "consolidated" pack I DLd recently.

Re: Airwindows plugins
122Ah, that's not surprising. There's so many airwindows plugins with silly names and controls and esoteric explanations, it's hard to know what to look for sometimes.mdc wrote: Mon Jan 12, 2026 4:51 pm Couldn't tell you - it's part of the "consolidated" pack I DLd recently.

123Okay this is done and open source. Have at it:Barbo wrote: Wed Nov 26, 2025 6:41 pmI would very interested in seeing this. I know Rust very minimally. But have always been curious about plugin coding and have been too lazy to do much exploration.seby wrote: One of my thesis students just rebuilt an Airwindows plugin from scratch in Rust (as opposed to C++). Solid effort and the guy is going places. He has documented everything and I shall share it here when it is ready.

Re: Airwindows plugins
124Christ every time this comes up I remember I need to get situated with the dithering stuff.
I am sort of convinced that tracks in * Reaper (edit) w/ plugins don’t sound as good after freezing, or it sounds best when you’re monitoring the outboard processing live. Could be psychological, I don’t know, could be the way I am monitoring but it’s kind of bothering me.

Re: Airwindows plugins
125Could be. For a long time I thought so too, and also that the rendered song sounded different than when monitoring playback. I just stopped caring because if it's true the differences are so tiny that I can't really say it is "worse" or "better" and only sort of tell it is different at all f I squint my mind. A/Bing Dithering is too deep a hole for me to start digging and I don't think it would spark joy.
Re: Airwindows plugins
126Haha. I just had one of those moments. I bought something on Reverb and the company sent me the wrong item (which turned out to be a whole thing so I am being vague), so I had a fancy 500 series preamp to test out for a couple days. By the time I aligned everything with test tones and mic splitters and stuff I could have been well on my way to tracking something.Kniferide wrote: Thu Mar 12, 2026 4:35 pmA/Bing Dithering is too deep a hole for me to start digging and I don't think it would spark joy.
There was hardly a lick of difference between my cheapish Spectra mic preamp and the other one. I couldn’t even test it in overdrive because the other pre was already so gainy with a tube condenser mic on vocals. At the end I saved the session and made a note warning against going down that rabbit hole again.
But maybe if I just add dithering into my practice
It could dissuade me from worrying about it further, but I could at least give it a try. Just not a priority vs actually finishing stuff.
Re: Airwindows plugins
127I've done a lot of A/B tests with every preamp I have and unless I'm pushing them into the red, they are basically interchangeable. Any differences are tiny and nothing an eq cant adjust for. The only preamp I have that instantly sounds significantly special is my weird little Precision Audio / Grommes tube mic mixer which sounds fantastic, and my trusty modified Shure M67's which just sound cool on stuff in a kinda lofi way. Preamps mostly fall into Bad / Good, and "That sounds kinda cool" as far as how I pick them.llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Thu Mar 12, 2026 6:23 pm There was hardly a lick of difference between my cheapish Spectra mic preamp
