Mentioning this in case it helps with the struggle. My wife endured a long job search last year that was made considerably easier by joining a Never Search Alone job search council. It helped with getting her prepared to apply, to interview, and most of all, to have a place to blow off steam with people in similar situations.

Damn, how did I miss this post? Might have been while I was laying low after the #%!^$ election.

Anyway, looks like the positions are gone now. Frick. I'd certainly entertain becoming an associate professor for robotics, particularly if it involved a move to Australia. Might not have the right education for the position though (don't you typically need a postgraduate degree for these things?).

But yes - a PhD (or one that is very close to completion) is assumed. This might be waved in extraordinary circumstances, such as industry experience and/or teaching expertise.
