I once in jest referred to my wife as "my special lady." If looks could kill, I'd be six feet under, with a gavestone reading LOSER over my head. Never again. "Sweetie" is OK, at least around the house ...

I think the word 'Lady' sounds dignified and shows respect, I call several people 'Lady'.
