Pistolettes are good around the gulf coast, as long as they don’t make them semi-sweet. I’ve had a place or two in Louisiana that did served the pistolettes with a sugary dough and I hated it. Kolaches are good too but its hard to find good ones. Boudain kolaches! I thought even the bad ones were pretty good until I ordered this one abortion from Bucky’s and I wished I hadn’t.

I reminded me of a small run of bad luck with breakfast restaurants - I’d order biscuits and gravy and they’d do something so the biscuits were oddly sweet? I don’t know what the fuck they were thinking, or if somebody just fucked up in the kitchen, but it happened more than once and I hated that too.

The sweet and salty crowd needs wilderness immersion therapy or something. Go off in the woods and come back when you have been purified by the elements.

I guess this turned into a list of grievences. See that chapter on terrible texas restaurants in Burroughs’ Junky. Food in Texas is so plentiful and so often bad that the real good places that peak through are godsends. But on average, just walk into any random place and you are rolling the dice against some asshole every time.

Okay, sweet entrees might offend but how do you feel about a salt element in a dessert treat? I'm thinking salted dark chocolate, or caramel or candied almonds etc.

Well those are ok, but I’m also not ordering that stuff for breakfast. I meant more like people who dip bacon in pancake syrup taking similar liberties with regular savory menu items so they can inflict their weird little habits on everyone else. Then it becomes a problem.

I know I can’t stop the tangent but let’s keep it savoury folks.
