2im kinda torn here.... unsane was the loudest concert I have been to. the sheer volume was pure intensity. I think their music kicks ass but they made the same song like 30 times. range is an important factor.
im gonna say not crap, but barely.
if I hear one or two songs in a sitting, I like them more.

3this is interesting, i just listened to their cd for the first time in a month last night, and if you try to set aside any pretense and stop caring that there are nearly no dynamic changes, the song structures are anything but intricate, and its just 3 guys playing obnoxiously loud, its really fuckin good.
simplicity definetly has its place. and in congruence with what ive found myself being into lately, the slower the better.

5Charles Ondras was their first drummer, and really good, too. Too bad he liked heroin so much, he's dead...
Not Crap with a side of Waffle, I only have the train decapitation CD, I don't know what the new stuff is like.

6I liked the Charlie records more, but Vinnie served aptly and brutally.
The last time I saw them, they had the unfortunate luck of opening for Slayer.
Heh.
Unsane was as pummelling as a streetfight and as grating as your teeth on the pavement, and to your typical audience, this would have taken their heads off.
However, at this show, after every song ended the whole audience would yell out "FUCK YOU!! SLAYER!!!!!"
The guitar player got smart and started incorporating snarls of "SLAYER" into every song that had a chorus where it fit.
At this, all of the diehards in the audience would freak and scream "YEAAAAHHHH!! SLAAAAAAYYYYYERRR!!!!" and then the song would end and the whole audience would yell out "FUCK YOU!! SLAYER!!!"

7I love this band with all my heart, but I do agree that their songs all sound the same, although you could level that criticism at many other bands, like say, the Ramones, Big Black, Public Image Ltd, or any of those old blues guys from the 30's. They got their one thing, and they're pretty damn good about it.
I heard a story, not sure how true it is, but they were touring with Entombed around "Total Destruction" (HIGHLY underrated album, IMHO), and some hessian Entombed fan kept heckling them. Pete Shore threw down his bass, and beat the shit out of the guy in the middle of the song. Chris and Vinny didn't even notice.
Plus, Unsane were the first band I listened to when I was a teenager that my mom didn't like. She was into Jon Spencer and Supernova, and surprisingly okay with Helmet and Killdozer, but that Unsane shit? No way. She doesn't like blood on album covers, I guess. So for that alone, Not Crap.

I saw that tour...the poor fuckers. Spencer even pleaded to the audience, "Hey! Slayer likes us! They invited us on this tour!" while being pummeled with cups/bottles/etc

10Loudest band I ever saw no doubt. They were rumbling stuff in the center of my body that I never felt move before. At one point my very favorite band.
