I'm considering buying this, basically so that people who are interested in the digital side of stuff will be able to see something they know and trust when they see my spec, rather than see Fedora 3/Ardour and, having no idea what it is, take their business elsewhere. The only bone of contention for me at the moment is will it allow me to run two interfaces simultaneously (specifically two Delta 1010s for 16 in 16 out), or is it similar to the way LE only allows you to run one 002?

I can't find any mention of this on either the M Audio or Digidesign websites, which leads my cynical mind to believe that it might be the case.

If anyone has an answer, that would be most appreciated, cheers.

Have you read the software spec to see what the max. number of simultaneous tracks recordable is?

People have claimed to run multiple interfaces, but it is not officially supported, so I would not go that route. I think there is a 16 input interface made by M-Audio available. Or maybe you get the 16 tracks by using an 8 input interface and then using ADAT for the other 8 tracks. I know this has been discussed at great length on the digidesign user forums:

I would never suggest doing this, but you can actually use the new software in a way which lets you install Protools TDM and run most M-Audio soundcards with it.

You can set them up in Audio MIDI Setup (Mac HD/Applications/Utilities) although I don't know if it'll work in PT M-Powered... I don't think it'll show up as an M-Audio device...

Hmm, looks hit and miss. So Digidesign doesn't 'support' using multiple interfaces, but it might work anyway... Time to borrow a second 1010 and download the demo I guess...

And no, I'm not running on a mac, this would be running on the XP partition of a dual boot PC (the other running Fedora/Ardour). Basically all I want is a cheap, legit way of saying I have Pro Tools if someone I work for wants to use it.

Maybe just get the Protools M-Powered demo.

I suppose you could test your theory with the demo too....
