I looked at the add, and i recognized the sellers name from a guy who just put a shitload of ultra high end mics on ebay. When you check out this, look at the sellers other items and see mics for $19,000!!!!!!! Cool stuff, wish I had the bling!

I can think of all sorts of reasons that a person should not attempt to sell pair of vintage microphones for $40,000. (Not that they're going to sell, but still.)

These aren't stamps or rare coins, these things were built to help people make great music.

This guy's collection reminds me of this vintage guitar store in Maryland we went to a few years ago. There was a back room with stacks of pristine tweed fender amps, just stacks of them - none for sale. It was like he was waiting for the moment when the market was just ripe enough, and then he'd strike. So sad, these beautiful amps with no one to play them.

Anyway - these astronomical microphone prices don't strike me as something that should be supported by the community, but I don't know much about microphones. I'm eager to hear intelligent rants by those who do. Are there similar but relatively affordable microphones that don't need to be kept behind glass? Is there any way possible to justify these absurd prices?

Had to be that place in Wheaton -- I cant remember the name. Coulda been called Big Al's, though I thought it was something more prosaic than that. Something like Maryland Music or something. They useta do work for Danny Gatton. But yeah, there are quite a few "collector" type shops in the DC area. One over in Bethesda that has nutty prices, too. I can never remember the names of these places because I never go to any of them more than once.

Either way, Atomic doesnt have any room fulla tweeds. No way in hell.
