Advantages include being able to use classical guitar technique on electric, like complex arpeggios and skipping strings, and you have more control on dynamics overall.
disadvantages, i imagine it´s damn painful. but i´m starting to play fingerstyle with my brand new nylon acoustic (that i love) and i just saw a video of the black keys. the dude plays fingerstyle.

Not Crap in the slightest. Albert Collins did it exclusively and he's awesome. I'm pretty sure D. Boon is doing it on "Do You Want New Wave Or Do You Want The Truth?" (it at least sounds like it on the studio recording.) And that's one of the best Minutemen songs ever.
