jazzmaster vs telecaster?
2Jags and JMs are all about character/style, whereas a tele is (whilst certainly have character) a work-horse.
Personally if I was buying a Fender I'd buy a strat, whereas if I was shopping for a tele then I'd buy a G&L or maybe a Schecter.
Guitars are all about personal taste though aren't they?
Nothing anybody says will make much difference if you pick something up and immediately love/hate it.
You can get replacement JM bridges (really, really ugly though) that fix the problems with the stock versions.

3The Jazzmaster bridge problem can be solved by replacing it with a Mustang replacement.
The strings will not slip out of the grooves as easily, it does not rattle (as much) and screws will not fall out as there are none. The only problem is you cannot adjust the height of each individual saddle.

If you buy the Warmoth bridge then it is adjustable.

Wow, this could be the answer to my current Jaguar bridge problems. Is anyone aware whether a mustang bridge will also sit happily on a Jaguar?

6@woo:
I dunno, but you might want to ask these guys.
I'm a long-time Tele player considering getting a Jazzmaster, but I've been warned off the Japanese re-issue (crap pickups, and the body rout supposedly won't accept authentic JM pups).

This information is false.

9I had a Japanese JM, but as you saud the bridge becomes a problem, and the pick-ups aren't great! I swaped the pick-ups for seamour duncan 'soap bars', but they still weren't great!
I now have an american tele, which I swaped for the JM, and I gotta say, the bridge, the neck, the body, the pick-ups.... all far superior.
It's all about opinion though, and you gotta say a JM, jaguar or mustang do look the business.

10Aside from the sound, I think the most appealing thing about the Tele is it's simplicity: there's not really much that can go wrong with it.
