My original plan was to drive myself out for these dates, but the rehearsal schedule has one day of leeway to drive from Minneapolis to NYC. The studio we're going to record at is super digital and sterile, and I had originally planned on bringing a bunch of outboard stuff, but now I'm going to fly, and I just think I'm going to bring some microphones.
Other than packing everything in pressurized pelican cases and maybe bringing a few more of the more fragile ones as a carry on, is there anything I should be looking out for?
Fwiw, I'll be bringing
2 RCA bx44s
1 RCA bk5b
2 Coles 4038s
3 Altec Coke Bottles
2 Altec 639a.
1 AKG c12.
Re: Flying with microphones
2Don’t fly with anything you wouldn’t be OK with losing and not being compensated for.
I think you could probably rent a couple of those models pretty easily.

Re: Flying with microphones
3If you can keep these in a bag as the under-seat item these will be with you at all times and won't get banged around in checked. Hard cases in overhead are good protection and will keep the mics nearby at all times, but full flights might fill up the bins, so get on early. I wouldn't check something that valuable, and that would go double if you had a connecting flight.
