Re: Anyone out there stop recording music?

Yeah. Self-recorded and released a bunch of tapes and two CDs up through 2005. Then moved away from the other guys in the band and started a family. Hadn’t had the same desire to write or record music since then, up until last year.

EDIT: it's an oversimplification for me to attribute it all to starting a family. I got bored with it, too. I was always super self-critical of my own writing and recording, and I had just gotten to a point where the only songs that I were happy with were all of the same mold. The world doesn't need more open-chord rock songs, at least not from me (that was my thinking).

I still play a lot of guitar, drums, synth (dabbling) around the house, but over the course of the pandemic I'd attempt a new song (lay down a drum track, or drums & guitar, etc.) but get bored with it before even finishing it. I'd even shake things up by 'hiring' musicians on fiverr and recording my drums at a local studio with a massive live room, but same end result.

I've been recording my own 'full band' songs for over 20 years but these days it just feels like work, especially on a computer.

Been recording my own stuff since 1989, always had *something* to work on. June 2021 I finished up a half dozen records I had in progress, then took a year+ break from recording, didn't do anything in the studio at all except master records for other people (my day job). I spent all that time just playing guitar instead, and it actually felt great to be playing just for the sake of it, not because I needed a part for a song or whatever.

So now I have a whole batch of little ditties, and some fresh enthusiasm to record them, got started on it last week, whoo hoo.

How has your experience been on Fiverr? My friend is busy with other projects, and I'm thinking about trying to get a drummer for a few tracks.
I'd rather be throwing darts.

I can personally vouch for FM BrendanK, who offers his drum services for quite cheap. Yeah, I play drums, but it was more fun to hear someone else's interpretation* (I sent guitars only recorded to a click). And he has a better drum recording setup than I do.

Otherwise, I've just used fiverr for some odds and ends stuff: a female backing vocalist with a soprano range, a bari sax player who I was hoping to get Brötzmann-like
results out of but came out more Lisa Simpson, and a mastering guy with very quick turnaround.

*I never actually posted/shared that track, cuz self doubt, defeatism, etc.
