The Films of Ari Aster

Hoping to catch Beau Is Afraid as soon as I can locate a theater chair comfy enough to support my wiry carriage for three hours. I'm including his short The Strange Thing About the Johnsons. Feel free to include your own if the spirit moves, but at this point I feel confident enough voting for Hereditary as his best.

Chapo had him on recently. Interesting guy. Seemed very grounded and “normal”. I need to see Beau is Afraid. I really enjoyed Hereditary and Midsommer. Exactly my kind of horror films. I struggle with a lot of horror because I dislike gore and cruelty. I really enjoy dread and world building.

Did this used to be a poll and the option was removed?

Loved Hereditary and Midsommer. Not just for the plots, but for the scary images (ie, the scene with the ants in the former). I liked parts of Beau is Afraid, especially the early scenes of Phoenix in his apartment, terrified to go across the street. But then it just went on and on, and I almost was like, "is this thing over yet?" Overall, it was admirable, it wasn't an outright failure like, say, Babylon, by another director whose previous films I admired (Damien Chazelle).

Looking forward to seeing Eddington.
"Whatever happened to that album?"
"I broke it, remember? I threw it against the wall and it like, shattered."
