Thanks Russ.

I actually signed up to the poker room link you have on your signature line, but haven't had a proper go yet. I have played poker on a number of occasions in the real world, with reasonable success, but I need more practice. I will endevour to study the PDF and give it a whirl online; mostly because I need to spend more time on the computer.

All this poker talk has piqued my interest. And I need replace my Sudoku addiction.

Yes,

Thanks for the monkeys. They're great. Glad to hear that you got such a great gift for father's day. Hope you enjoy. I suggest studying up a little more before you play Gina for real money. Maybe I'll have to stop by sometime for a game. The next time I'm in Houston that is.

Keep in mind that you Houstonians should be careful playing AK, as that hand is called "Walking Back to Houston" by poker pro T.J. Cloutier. He and his poker buddies from Dallas would sometimes be joined by outsiders from Houston. He says the guys from Houston used to love playing big slick, and would overplay it too often.

OK, kerble, I don't know where you keep getting all this crazy art, but thanks, I guess. Hey, I saw you walking down the street with a new lady friend. Hope that's going well for ya.

All you other punks, stop hijacking my thread, dammit.

So, no comments yet, besides some thanks you's (which are appreciated btw).

It's only a 9 page document. I kept the margins wide so you wouldn't have a tough time reading. Surely some of you have read the whole thing by now. No?

Walter, let me know when you get your copy of Getting Started In Hold'em, and how you like it.

i played a couple no-limit house games before and was pleasantly with surprised with how much i didn't blow.

i’ve been studying your guide and can’t wait to get started playing for money this weekend. i like how you admit to being drawn into hold’em by celebrity poker. i first saw poker on espn and watched but for some reason felt like it was too over my head or something. when i saw celebrity poker, the espn coverage clicked. i could relate to the “normalâ€

Don't wait for your wife to go on vacation. Wait for her to go to bed. That's the best time to play anyway. Around 8 PM Eastern is the peak time for poker. Tables are strong all the way from 5 PM until about 2 or 3 AM.

Walter, thanks for reading. Hope it helps. What site are you thinking about playing on? Let us know how it goes. Feel free to post questions.

One thing I like about poker is the diversity that it encourages. It doesn't really matter what your background is when you sit down at the table.

This seems sensible advice. I've playing Texas Hold'em for play money at Poker-Room this evening and managed to win $675 in about thirty minutes, just by being cautious with my hands. A lot of the other players seemed pretty reckless. How much more considered are the players in real money games?

What is the drawback with playing on a Mac? Is it merely sluggish on multi-table games?

Also, where can I find some reliable stats lists relating to different hands?

Anyway I'm getting a taste for it, although my poker terminology is currently weak.

Cheers.
