Not Crap. Bucky from the Tar Babies had a really weird pick/fingerstyle. He can play his azz off with them fingers.

I have a banjo.

I have horrible technique when it comes to "fingerpicking". However, I do it all the time because I never have any picks. I'm also usually missing strings.

I've been using a metal thumbpick and fingerstyling at the same time. my new guitar has a nice, wide neck, so this has been really good for clean fingerstyle.

it's a blast. So many weird textures and combinations I haven't been able to do with a regl'ar pick. Plucked low note with two high harmonics, spanish-style finger strums (one after the other in a flicking motion), plucking two nonadjacent strings and sliding the notes....man. fun.

you can still use the tops of your fingernails as a flatpick and get some definition. with the gain up on the amp, I still get a nice, muted crunch.
