that answers....literally none of my questions
The first one was obv rhetorical - I would really have liked to have heard the toms and maybe a beat w/ the ride going too
The second one was more a Ringo-style question about tuning I guess? I heard and saw that same clip: "it's a very low snare" Great! Thanks! But how'd they get it that low? I have a big ol' snare and any time I've tried a really low tuning, the tension rods come completely loose before the chorus comes in.

14This sounds good but would be better with a brat.

15Sorry, I was just saying I didn't find it a useless demonstration at all. I've never used this technique with toms in mind, but I digress.Garth wrote: Tue Aug 17, 2021 12:01 pm that answers....literally none of my questions

For low tuning, I've used plumbers tape (white or pink teflon stuff) of the snare lugs to keep em from vibrating themselves the rest of the way out.
A thinner resonant head helps too. Less decay = better, as the resonance of the drum will increase with less tension on the heads.
Full disclosure, I am not a drummer, but I do really like recording drums.
DIY and die anyway.

16Sure...but those things are going to be played or why would they be there, right? That's my only point. I mean, if you're playing a 2 pc kit, that's rad! SO much easier to record! But there's also those toms in there....crash and ride too. I think it makes sense to have those things included in the example too, especially when they made a point to show about trying to center the mic equidistant from the other items. It's a minor quibble I guess, but also a little frustrating because it seems obvious to me.brownreasontolive wrote: Sorry, I was just saying I didn't find it a useless demonstration at all. Hadn't considered something like this - I guess lug-locks would do the job here too. Thanks for the suggestion!brownreasontolive wrote: For low tuning, I've used plumbers tape (white or pink teflon stuff) of the snare lugs to keep em from vibrating themselves the rest of the way out.
