My transport controller stopped working. I rebound all the keys back to the transport, but I couldn't get recording to stop. Eventually, I discovered that SHIFT+CMD+R stops recording. Even though I had programmed with the MIDI controller the Transport Record/Stop toggle to be the record button on the controller, it still wouldn't work. I eventually found the solution. In the Actions panel, on the far right side there's a dropdown for "Section" which you will see "Main" selected. If you switch that to "Alternate Recording", you can then add all new commands to whatever action while Reaper is recording. So, choosing Transport Record/Stop toggle, I added the same MIDI button and now it works.
I just want to say how stupid and unintuitive this is. If you use a toggle, one would expect it to toggle. Why anyone would want to remap their keys when Reaper is in record mode, I don't understand. If nothing is selected in Alternate Recording, I would expect the default to happen.
This is weird and I've never had to do that. Toggle has always just worked. I stopped using my midi controller transport buttons a long time ago though and now use a xencelabs quick keys. I have some marker commands, rec, undo, track up/down and shuttle programed on it. It's like a coll little wireless remote for reaper now. Stream deck is also better than any midi solution I've tried.
