The reason I left the Princeton out of this is because it (along with a Champ) is an outlier in the realm of what one would consider blackface Fenders. The cathodyne PI is gonna sound different than a LTPI, especially as it relates to breakup.
Yeah. It's a cleaner Fender, and the PI is very different. But, when cranked or boosted, it still vibes "pushed fender" IMO.

Kazoo, if you're ever in L.A., let me know. We can arrange an amp play date at a secret location (my day job).

Example:

Control room:

Cat6 cable running downstairs >
Cat6 receiver to xlr > EA DI > amp

I generally need to be standing next to the amp I’m playing through for the illegal magic to happen, but this sounds like something I could use from time to time, just making sure I’m not overcomplicating it.
I left out the cat6 receiver, which I didn’t find necessary for M160 and C38B spot mics on a 15 Gibson amp, so went:

Guitar > zvex super 2 in 1 > 1/4” in ea di > long xlr > ea di xlr out > amp

Worked wonderfully for what I needed to do.

Essentially I got everything dialed in with the mic position as best as I could, then sat at the mixer and outboard with my guitar in my hand and had a much easier time making simple eq cuts and boosts and ibp phase box matches.

Normally at this point I just used a long guitar cable, but on top of the tone change, the amount of noise it added wasn’t subtle, so the two DI scheme is a serious improvement for my needs.

Is Tony Iommi's guitar on "Snowblind" slightly out of tune (mostly just noticeable on the arpeggio part in the main riff), the intonation slight off, or something weird with a double of the part? It's always sounded just a smidge "off" to me, and it doesn't seem to be that way on various live versions I've checked out.

I'm sure there was a thread on the old forum for weird mistakes/glitches/out of tune moments in recordings, but this came up on shuffle yesterday and I couldn't get it out of my brain.

Yeah, the "G" is totally flat a little bit. It's tuned to E, since the song is in C# standard. But hey, it's a Gibson (or G style). At least it's not sharp.

I don't know why, but I've often had intonation problems with G style guitars, especially around the G and B strings. This is why I have like 4 different ways to tune guitars by ear, with each one working better for a certain key or style of playing..

I put some heavy strings on my EGC because I hadn't changed strings in years probably, and when I was playing after letting everything settle, the 4th string would not intonate, and I mean it was off by like a full half step at the 12th fret no matter what I did - everything else would set up fine and sounded normal. I dicked around for a while getting pissed before I just pulled that one string, found another old one of similar gauge, threw it in, and boom. Problem solved.

I mean, I guess a bad string is capable of doing anything, it's just super weird that no matter how I set it up, it was a half step flat at the 12th. I mean I'll take the win and move on, but still. grrr

Got a failing power supply on one of our aging digicos. Replacements still available. Even with trading in the old unit its > $2000 and > $4000 without sending in the old psu. This seems absolutely ridiculous to me.

These can be repaired elsewhere, right? These desks are basically overbuilt desktops running a lite version of windows from 15 years ago. Ive looked up the mfg and psu part number on the internet and found similar but not 100% identical units for 1/10th the price. They seem to just be a standard OEM unit.
