I don't think this fits exactly. It's more of a boomerang effect?

The Police.

I loved them as a kid (like many kids my age). Dad had a few of their albums. Fully loved the singles tape that came out when I was in like 5th grade or something.

And then for YEARS I fucking couldn't stand the sound of this band. Not a clue. Just hurt my ears in a major way, outside of a song here and there.

In the last couple of years I've been listening to them on and off--recently went through the whole catalog again--and man, some of this shit RIPS. I think seeing Lee Harvey Oswald or whatever that band from detroit is called cover "Next to You" helped spur it on for me.

So, yeah. The Police a LOT lately.

I’ve been revisiting things I used to love, then couldn’t stand, just see if anything changed.

Besides Pantera (thanks, Faiz), turns out if you wait 20 years, Dismemberment Plan’s Emergency & I still fucking rules as long as you don’t listen to “Back and Forth”.

I certainly like metal more and more each year. Wasn't huge into it growing up, embraced thrash in my 20s but here in my late 40s I love it more and more and I really turned a corner on Neurosis this year. Always respected them, understood why smart metalheads love them, but they finally spoke to me. Unfortunate timing, but what can ya do.

Krafterk, always liked them enough, understood the influence, thought the concept was cool, but didn't really listen to them until the last decade or so. This is especially a bummer as I wished I'd had their music around when my kids were little. Danceable music with cool sounds and funny voices about activities and inventions; the greatest kid's music.

Agree.. both of my kids knew and liked "The Robots" by the time they were like four years old.

"The Robots" was one of the first songs my current two-year old immediately enjoyed even before he could verbally say it.

Yesterday he asked me to replay Nirvana's "Sliver" five times between daycare and our house.

David Bowie Heroes. It's so hard to find a lane to merge into with Bowie. I remember seeing Heroes in a used bin in a record store and just assuming it was one of the "bad ones". Anyway, here I am reading a subreddit about music production and someone talking about the synths on Heroes, then watching a BBC video of Tony Visconti going over the production after he'd remixed a few years ago, realizing this album is from 1977 and that it's got Eno and Fripp on it, and then I go and listen to the album and I'm like, "this is everything that I love about everything" and now I'm questioning all my decisions in life.
