+1. Even at my level & smaller venue, it is more OFTEN the case than not these days that touring "live" bands are coming through with dense backing tracks.
That a person made it is not a critique of art. It's like giving a kid a trophy for trying.

But, shit, I'd rather listen to people trying to play an instrument, even poorly, than a fucking prerecorded backing track.

Did I enjoy listening to the album? Yes.

Do I think he expressed what he wanted to with his trumpet playing? Mostly yes.

Were the arrangements interesting? Yes.

Is there a cool cover of Maggot Brain, and is there a passable cover of Wichita Lineman with Nick Cave? Yes.

Would I pay to see his band if they came through town? Probably not.
